On the afternoon of September 22, the 2025 Pujiang Innovation Forum Achievement Release Conference was held at the Dongjiao State Guest Hotel, with Zhu Xueyan, Deputy Director of our Institute, in attendance. At the conference, Shanghai's Pioneer Enterprise Innovation Capability Annual Report(2025), jointly compiled by the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science (SISS), the National Technology Transfer East Center (NETC), and Kexun Kehui (Shanghai) Technology Service Co., Ltd., was officially launched. Associate Research Fellow Zhu Yue from the Technology Entrepreneurship Research Office of our Institute delivered a detailed interpretation of the report on behalf of the research team.
The report introduces the concept of "pioneer enterprises," distinguishing them from categories defined primarily by financial indicators, such as "unicorn," "gazelle," and "cheetah" enterprises. From the perspective of innovation competitiveness, "pioneer enterprises" specifically refer to start-up sci-tech enterprises that regard technological innovation as their core driving force and dare to proactively open up new tracks in cutting-edge science and technology to initiate disruptive changes. While possessing high growth potential and sound operational capabilities, such enterprises represent the rising stars with the most pioneering spirit and transformative power in the deep tech field. Divided into three sections—Overview, Industry, and Enterprise—the report focuses on start-ups in key fields within Shanghai's two leading industries. Adhering to a data-driven approach, it identifies pioneer enterprises with high growth potential, aiming to provide decision-makers, investors, and practitioners with key insights into high-growth sci-tech enterprises.
The report indicates that pioneer enterprises are not only trailblazers in cutting-edge technological breakthroughs but are also poised to become key vehicles for new productive forces. They will drive more "0 to 1" original innovations and "1 to 100" industrial transformations, growing into vital components of an innovation ecosystem with greater openness and international influence.
